FAQ
DO YOU TAKE INFANT PASSPORT PHOTOS?
Yes we do. While we try our best to ensure every infant passport photo meets official government requirements, we all know infants cannot be directed to keep their eyes open, maintain a neutral expression, or remain in the required position. Acceptance is ultimately determined by Service Canada.
Whenever possible, we recommend waiting until your child can hold their own head up and sit independently before attempting to have their passport picture taken.
Passport Canada does permit very minor flexibility for newborns regarding expressions. For the best chance at acceptance, we strive to have the baby's eyes open and looking straight ahead, positioned square to the camera with a closed mouth.
DO YOU HAVE TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL INFANT PASSPORTS?
If possible, have two people present that the child is comfortable with. One person can stand near the photographer to get the child's attention, and the other can “hold” the child in position (no hands can be showing)
Sometimes a favourite toy can be helpful for getting the child's attention (one person can hold the toy near the camera during the photo shoot)
For older infants and toddlers, feeding them small snacks while we take their pictures can be helpful to ensure we get a picture with their mouth closed.
Avoid white clothing. Hair must be out of their face to ensure we can capture their entire face/facial features.
WHAT ARE THE GUIDELINES FOR PASSPORT PHOTOS?
No Smiling. You cannot smile, grin, smirk, or frown.
Mouth Closed. Your mouth must be completely shut.
Eyes Open. Both eyes must be open, fully visible, and looking straight at the camera lens.
Head Positioning. Your face and shoulders must be centred and squared to the camera, not tilted or turned.
No White Clothing. Avoid white or light-coloured tops. Choose dark or high-contrast solid colours like navy blue, black, green, or red.
No Uniforms. Any clothing that looks like a uniform or features camouflage patterns is prohibited.
Collar Choice. Avoid turtlenecks, hoodies, or bulky jackets that cover your neck as they can obscure the silhouette of your face and jawline.
Glasses. Prescription glasses are allowed only if your eyes are perfectly visible and there is zero flash reflection or lens glare. Tinted lenses and sunglasses are strictly banned.
Head Coverings. Hats and head coverings are forbidden unless worn daily for verified religious or medical reasons. Even then, your full face must be visible, and the fabric cannot cast any shadows.
Jewelry. It is highly recommended to remove large earrings, nose rings, or facial piercings to ensure they do not create reflections or cast shadows.
Hair. Your hair can be worn up or down, but it must be completely pulled back off your face so the full outline and edges of your face are unobstructed.
Makeup. Minimal, natural makeup is acceptable. Avoid heavy highlighter, severe contouring, or very shiny lip gloss that reflects the studio strobe lights.

DO I NEED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?
No. Just pop into either of our locations during regular business hours and you’ll be able to walk out with your new passport pictures in less than 20 minutes!
Please arrive no later than 30 minutes before we close.
Monday-Friday: no later than 4:30pm.
Saturday: no later than 2:30pm
